System crash via out-of-range NAND target selection
Published Aug 15, 2026 · Updated Aug 15, 2026
Out-of-bounds access in the raw NAND driver in Linux allows local users with MTD device access to crash the system. nand_select_target() accepts a chip-select index equal to nanddev_ntargets(), then passes that out-of-range value to controller select-chip handlers. Access to a raw NAND MTD device node and multi-target NAND hardware is required; invalid selection can read outside arrays, alter controller registers, or trigger a kernel BUG.
