CVE-2026-72093

Local privilege escalation via double GEM object release

Published Aug 15, 2026 · Updated Aug 15, 2026

Use-after-free in Linux 6.16 allows local users to corrupt kernel memory through an AMD XDNA dma-buf mapping failure. In amdxdna_gem_dmabuf_mmap(), a vm_insert_pages() failure invokes the VMA close handler, then falls through and releases the same GEM object again. Access to an AMD XDNA accelerator node is required; the second release can expose or overwrite kernel memory, escalate privileges, or panic the host.
