Local service interruption via firmware object leak
Published Aug 15, 2026 · Updated Aug 15, 2026
Resource exhaustion in the ims-pcu input driver in Linux allows local users to interrupt service through failed asynchronous firmware updates. The asynchronous update path in drivers/input/misc/ims-pcu.c returns after firmware validation fails without releasing the request's firmware object. Low-privileged local access to the device firmware-update path is required; repeated failures deplete kernel memory and interrupt availability.
