CVE-2026-72040

IPMI resource leakage via incomplete error cleanup

Published Aug 15, 2026 · Updated Aug 15, 2026

Resource-management flaw in Linux allows attackers to leak IPMI user references through an error path in i_ipmi_request(). When supplied_recv is caller-provided, error cleanup skips the matching nr_msgs decrement and user kref release, while ipmi_request_supply_msgs() also omits cleanup. Public records do not identify a reachable attacker interface or a demonstrated crash, hang, or other service impact.
