System crash via uninitialized lan743x spinlock
Published Aug 15, 2026 · Updated Aug 15, 2026
Improper initialization in affected Linux kernel branches starting at 6.0 allows local users to crash systems during lan743x PCI device probing. The lan743x_hardware_init() path calls pci11x1x_strap_get_status(), which acquires adapter->eth_syslock_spinlock before that lock is initialized. The crash requires CONFIG_DEBUG_SPINLOCK and compatible PCI11x1x hardware, and it interrupts availability without reported data access or modification.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
