CVE-2026-72029

Host crash via unchecked modem offsets

Published Aug 15, 2026 · Updated Aug 15, 2026

Out-of-bounds read and infinite-loop flaws in the Linux kernel IOSM MUX decoder allow remote attackers controlling a modem to crash the host. mux_dl_adb_decode() trusts modem-supplied table and datagram offsets and lengths without bounding them to skb->len, and it follows next_table_index without requiring forward progress. Reachability requires an active IOSM net device and a malicious or compromised Intel M.2 WWAN modem; crafted input can expose or corrupt kernel memory or exhaust memory until the system freezes.
