Identity certification via unchecked subkey authority
Published Oct 3, 2026 · Updated Oct 3, 2026
OpenPGP certification bypass in Bouncy Castle Java 1.81 through 1.85.2 allows attackers to bind false identities using a restricted subkey. OpenPGPCertificate.getCertificationBy() and getDelegationBy() verified a subkey's signature chain without checking whether that subkey held the CERTIFY_OTHER flag when it signed. Exploitation requires control of a restricted subkey and an application that treats the returned chain as an identity or trusted-introducer decision; it does not forge the primary key's signature.
