Detection bypass via cross-family flow state reuse
Published Sep 18, 2026 · Updated Sep 18, 2026
Incorrect flow comparison in OISF Suricata before 7.0.17 and 8.0.0 through 8.0.5 allows remote attackers to bypass detection. Flow comparisons in src/flow-hash.c match raw address words and other tuple fields without checking the IP family, so colliding IPv4 and IPv6 packets can share flow state. Exploitation requires aligned addresses, ports, protocol, VLAN, recursion level, live device, and hash bucket; the result is incorrect flowbits or IP-only bypass, not code execution.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
Is a vulnerable build present?
Compare these published version ranges with your installed build and any vendor patches.
- Affected versionversion=< 7.0.17

Attacks
What attackers are doing with it
Daily unique IPs observed by Shadowserver honeypots for known exploited vulnerabilities (KEVs). Missing observations do not establish an absence of attacks.
