CVE-2026-71566Network attack vectorHinoki check available

Unauthorized VM control via ignored credentials

Published Aug 17, 2026 · Updated Aug 17, 2026

Authentication bypass in OpenShift-Metal3 FakeFish through 28f9a6b allows attackers to control VMs via Redfish requests. The KubeVirt backend authenticates to the cluster with a mounted KUBECONFIG file and never validates the Basic Auth username or password carried in the request, so supplied credentials are ignored before power and virtual-media actions run. Exposure requires FakeFish to be used with the KubeVirt backend; if the documented route is published, remote attackers can power VMs on or off and mount arbitrary CD images as the instance owner.
