CVE-2026-71498Public exploit

Heap memory disclosure via truncated UTF-8 Buffer

Published Aug 6, 2026 · Updated Aug 6, 2026

Out-of-bounds read in Eugene Lazutkin node-re2 before 1.26.1 allows attackers to disclose adjacent heap memory via a malformed Buffer. The native binding infers character width from the final UTF-8 lead byte without checking remaining input, so replace and split copy up to three out-of-bounds bytes into JavaScript. Exploitation requires application-controlled Buffer input ending in an incomplete multibyte sequence; string inputs are unaffected, and no heap grooming is required.
