CVE-2026-71476Network attack vector

Arbitrary file write via uncontained tar extraction

Published Aug 6, 2026 · Updated Aug 6, 2026

Path traversal in Nrwl Nx 20.8.0 through 22.7.6 and 23.0.0 through 23.0.1 allows remote attackers to write arbitrary files via cache archives. The self-hosted HTTP cache extractor joins each untrusted tar entry name to the output directory and passes the result to unguarded Entry::unpack without a containment check. Exploitation requires a workspace configured for a self-hosted remote cache and a malicious cache server or man-in-the-middle position; default local caching and Nx Cloud are unaffected, and overwritten files can enable code execution.
