CVE-2026-71219Hinoki check available

Utility crash via unbounded stack allocation

Published Sep 3, 2026 · Updated Sep 3, 2026

Stack overflow in gfs2-utils on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7, 8, and 9 allows local users to crash utilities via a crafted GFS2 image. Hash-table traversal in metawalk.c passes 1 shifted by the untrusted on-disk di_depth value to alloca without validating a maximum, exhausting the process stack. Exploitation requires an administrator to run fsck.gfs2, gfs2_edit, or savemeta on the image; stack guard pages confine the reported impact to a utility crash.
