Administrative access via unlimited password guessing
Published Aug 5, 2026 · Updated Aug 5, 2026
Improper authentication-attempt restriction in changedetection.io 0.55.7 allows remote attackers to gain administrative access via password guessing. On the /login route, User.check_password compares every submitted password with the single stored PBKDF2-HMAC-SHA256 value, while the handler keeps no per-IP or per-session attempt counter, delay, or lockout. The route is exposed only when password protection is enabled; a correct guess authenticates the shared default user and grants access to the protected application.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
