CVE-2026-70612Network attack vector

External application launch via ignored iframe sandbox flags

Published Aug 5, 2026 · Updated Aug 5, 2026

Improper access control in Electron allows remote attackers to launch OS-registered applications through untrusted iframe content. ElectronBrowserClient passed external-protocol navigation to openExternal permission handling without enforcing the initiating frame's WebSandboxFlags. Exposure requires an app to render untrusted content in a sandboxed iframe and grant openExternal; the direct consequence is launching the registered protocol handler.
