DevTools code execution via unsanitized mode option
Published Aug 5, 2026 · Updated Aug 5, 2026
Code injection in Electron before 39.8.7, 40.9.0, 41.2.0, and 42.0.0-beta.1 allows attackers to run JavaScript in DevTools. The DevTools frontend consumes the mode option of webContents.openDevTools() without sanitizing it, allowing crafted dock-state text to become executable script. Reachability requires attacker influence over the mode argument or an embedded webview that can call openDevTools(); Node.js access requires an unsandboxed configuration.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
Is a vulnerable build present?
Compare these published version ranges with your installed build and any vendor patches.
