CVE-2026-70427Network attack vector

Controller code execution via empty-name archive symlinks

Published Aug 5, 2026 · Updated Aug 5, 2026

Link following in Jenkins 2.575 and earlier and LTS 2.568.1 and earlier allows attackers to write controller files via crafted tar archives. The controller's tar extractor accepts symbolic links with effectively empty names and resolves later archive entries through them outside the extraction destination. Exploitation requires control of an agent process; writes remain limited by the Jenkins service account, but startup scripts or plugins can yield controller code execution.
