Static initializer execution via unrestricted class loading
Published Sep 22, 2026 · Updated Sep 22, 2026
Unsafe reflection in Apache Calcite Avatica before 1.29.0 allows attackers to initialize arbitrary classpath classes through plugin names. AvaticaUtils#instantiatePlugin and related factories passed externally controlled class names to Class.forName(String), initializing classes before validating their plugin types. Reachability requires control of a plugin-class setting and a suitable class already on the classpath; its static initializer then runs in the Avatica process.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
