Local code execution via writable Git hooks
Published Oct 14, 2026 · Updated Oct 14, 2026
Writable Git hooks in Gitea 1.27.2 and earlier allow local users to execute code as the service account through later Git operations. The createDelegateHooks function in modules/git/hooks.go creates hook directories and scripts with mode 0777, relying on the process umask to remove write permissions. Exploitation requires a permissive umask and access to repository storage; execution remains limited to the service account, with no root access unless Gitea runs as root.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
