Local privilege escalation via stack buffer overflow
Published Aug 11, 2026 · Updated Aug 25, 2026
Stack-based buffer overflow in Windows Installer on affected Windows releases allows local users to elevate privileges. Microsoft has not disclosed the vulnerable Windows Installer routine, the triggering input, or the unsafe copy operation that overruns the stack buffer. A low-privileged local account is required, and successful exploitation elevates that account's privileges on the affected host.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
