Local code execution via use-after-free
Published Aug 11, 2026 · Updated Aug 25, 2026
Use-after-free in Microsoft Office Word before the August 2026 Office fixes allows attackers to execute code locally. Microsoft has disclosed only that Word reuses freed memory; no parser, file-format, or function-level details are public in the CNA record or vendor bulletin. The published vector is local with required user interaction and no prior privileges, so exploitation depends on user interaction in a local context and code runs with the current user's rights.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.

Published CVSS scores
CVSS describes severity. EPSS estimates exploitation probability.
Attacks
What attackers are doing with it
Daily unique IPs observed by Shadowserver honeypots for known exploited vulnerabilities (KEVs). Missing observations do not establish an absence of attacks.
Public exploit references
No public exploit references are available in this record.
Labels summarize the accepted research assessment. They do not indicate a test against your environment.
