Local privilege escalation via read-only staged DLL
Published Sep 18, 2026 · Updated Sep 18, 2026
Local privilege escalation in Sublime Text 4 build 4192 and 3 build 3207 for Windows allows local users to execute code with elevated privileges. The updater fails to remove a read-only DLL from the user-writable %LOCALAPPDATA% staging directory, and the elevated installer copies it into the protected installation directory. Exploitation requires local low-privileged access and a later launch by a higher-privileged user, after which the DLL runs in that user's context.
