Remote code execution via stack-based buffer overflow
Published Sep 8, 2026 · Updated Sep 9, 2026
Stack-based buffer overflow in Microsoft Office Word allows remote attackers to execute code through malicious network-delivered content. Microsoft identifies the faulty component only as Word and has not disclosed the affected parser, data structure, or unchecked operation that overwrites the stack buffer. Exploitation requires user interaction, needs no attacker privileges, and executes code in the security context of the affected Word process.
