Local privilege escalation via out-of-bounds read
Published Sep 8, 2026 · Updated Sep 9, 2026
Out-of-bounds read in Windows NTFS allows local users with existing access to elevate privileges on affected Windows systems. Microsoft has not published the NTFS code path, buffer, or untrusted input that causes the out-of-bounds read. Low-privileged local access is required; successful exploitation grants elevated privileges and can compromise the host.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
