Remote code execution via --config bypass
Published Apr 25, 2026 · Updated Apr 25, 2026
Code injection in steveukx simple-git before 3.36.0 allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code through crafted Git options. The options filter rejects -c but fails to treat the equivalent --config form as unsafe, allowing protocol.ext.allow=always to enable an ext:: transport command. Exploitation requires an embedding application to pass attacker-controlled input into the simple-git options argument; successful execution runs with that application's privileges.
