Privilege escalation via self-writable Cognito attribute
Published Apr 24, 2026 · Updated Apr 24, 2026
Privilege escalation in AWS Ops Wheel v2 PR #147 through PR #163 allows remote authenticated users to gain deployment admin access. The Cognito User Pool Client permits UpdateUserAttributes requests to write custom:deployment_admin because it does not restrict self-writable attributes. Any authenticated application account can then read, modify, or delete cross-tenant application data and manage Cognito users.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
