Subscriber-to-Administrator escalation via unchecked API-key generation
Published May 23, 2026 · Updated May 23, 2026
Privilege escalation in WishList Member 3.30.1 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to create WordPress administrator accounts. The WishListMember3_Hooks::generate_api_key function handles the wlm3_generate_api_key AJAX action without a capability check, letting subscribers replace the REST API secret key. Subscriber-level access is sufficient to use the new key to define an administrator-linked membership level and register an arbitrary administrator account, enabling complete site takeover.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.

Attacks
What attackers are doing with it
Daily unique IPs observed by Shadowserver honeypots for known exploited vulnerabilities (KEVs). Missing observations do not establish an absence of attacks.
