Subscriber-to-Administrator escalation via unchecked settings write
Published May 23, 2026 · Updated May 23, 2026
Missing authorization in WishList Member 3.30.1 and earlier allows remote authenticated users to modify arbitrary plugin options. The Team_Accounts::save_settings AJAX handler accepts Subscriber-level requests without a capability check and writes attacker-supplied settings, including the REST API secret key. A Subscriber can use that key to create a membership level with the Administrator role and register an administrator account, enabling site takeover.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.

Attacks
What attackers are doing with it
Daily unique IPs observed by Shadowserver honeypots for known exploited vulnerabilities (KEVs). Missing observations do not establish an absence of attacks.
