Authenticated node crash via unbounded idle channels
Published Sep 22, 2026 · Updated Sep 22, 2026
Resource exhaustion in Erlang/OTP SSH before 27.3.4.18, 28.5.0.7, or 29.1.1 allows remote authenticated users to crash the node. ssh_connection:handle_msg/4 calls setup_session/5 for each idle session request and stores a channel record without applying max_channels. Valid SSH credentials and network access are required; one connection can exhaust VM memory and terminate every application on the node, without reading or writing data.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
