Code execution via installer DLL search order
Published Sep 14, 2026 · Updated Sep 14, 2026
DLL search-order hijacking in the Rakuten Kobo Desktop installer distributed before July 15, 2026 allows local users to execute code. The Windows installer searches its own directory before system directories and loads a crafted DLL placed beside the executable. Exploitation requires a victim to run the affected installer with the DLL already in that directory; the code inherits the installing user's privileges.
