Process crash via unbounded JSON recursion
Published Sep 18, 2026 · Updated Sep 18, 2026
Uncontrolled recursion in Mojo::JSON before 9.47 allows remote attackers to crash an application process with deeply nested JSON. The pure-Perl _decode_array and _decode_object paths recursively process untrusted arrays and objects without limiting nesting depth, exhausting memory. Exposure requires an application to decode attacker-controlled JSON while Cpanel::JSON::XS is unavailable or MOJO_NO_JSON_XS selects the pure-Perl backend.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
Is a vulnerable build present?
Compare these published version ranges with your installed build and any vendor patches.

Attacks
What attackers are doing with it
Daily unique IPs observed by Shadowserver honeypots for known exploited vulnerabilities (KEVs). Missing observations do not establish an absence of attacks.
