Server crash via stack-backed report identifier free
Published Oct 16, 2026 · Updated Oct 16, 2026
Invalid free in libIEC61850 before 1.6.2 allows remote attackers to crash the MMS server via an oversized report identifier. Reporting_RCBWriteAccessHandler accepts RptID values longer than 129 bytes; sendNextReportEntrySegment then passes stack-backed rptIdBuf storage to MmsValue_setVisibleString, whose resize path frees it. Exploitation requires access to writable report-control-block fields and report generation through general interrogation (GI); the demonstrated consequence is a server crash, not code execution.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
