Server crash via reversed dataset-copy arguments
Published Oct 16, 2026 · Updated Oct 16, 2026
An out-of-bounds read in libIEC61850 before 1.6.2 allows remote attackers to crash MMS servers via dataset-creation requests. The checkDataSetAccess function reverses StringUtils_copyStringToBuffer arguments for association-specific datasets, causing strlen to scan uninitialized stack storage beyond its bounds and copying those bytes into the caller's listName buffer. Exploitation requires dynamic dataset service and an installed dataset access handler; demonstrated impact is denial of service with caller stack corruption, not established code execution.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
