Local code execution via undisclosed type confusion
Published Aug 11, 2026 · Updated Aug 25, 2026
Type confusion in Microsoft Office Excel in multiple Microsoft Office releases allows attackers to execute code locally via crafted files. Microsoft has disclosed only that Excel accesses a resource as an incompatible type; the CVE record and Security Update Guide do not identify the file format element, parser stage, or affected function. Exploitation requires a vulnerable Office or Office Online Server build to process attacker-supplied Excel content, after which code runs with the privileges of the hosting application.
