CVE-2026-68799

Local information disclosure via uninitialized resources

Published Aug 11, 2026 · Updated Aug 25, 2026

Use of uninitialized resource in Excel in Microsoft Office before the August 2026 updates allows attackers to read memory contents via crafted workbooks. Microsoft has not published the affected Excel parser or code path, only that Excel discloses data after using an uninitialized resource while processing a workbook. On desktops, exploitation requires a local file-open event by the target user; Microsoft also lists Office Online Server as affected, but the public advisory does not disclose which server-side workbook handling path reaches the same flaw.
