Code execution via stack-based overflow
Published Aug 11, 2026 · Updated Aug 25, 2026
Stack-based buffer overflow in Microsoft Office Excel before the August 2026 updates allows attackers to execute code via crafted spreadsheets. Microsoft's published records identify only a stack-based overflow in Excel and do not disclose the parser, file-format field, or failing copy operation on untrusted input. The CVSS vector requires local delivery and user interaction, so exploitation reaches code execution in the Excel process context after a user opens or otherwise processes a malicious file.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.

Published CVSS scores
CVSS describes severity. EPSS estimates exploitation probability.
Attacks
What attackers are doing with it
Daily unique IPs observed by Shadowserver honeypots for known exploited vulnerabilities (KEVs). Missing observations do not establish an absence of attacks.
Public exploit references
No public exploit references are available in this record.
Labels summarize the accepted research assessment. They do not indicate a test against your environment.
