Memory-exhaustion DoS via unchecked Smile property names
Published Oct 1, 2026 · Updated Oct 1, 2026
Denial of service in FasterXML Jackson Dataformats Binary allows remote attackers to exhaust memory via crafted Smile documents. SmileParser._handleLongFieldName() grows its name buffer without calling StreamReadConstraints.validateNameLength(), accepting property names beyond the configured limit. Exploitation requires attacker-controlled bytes to reach an application’s Smile parser; memory exhaustion can interrupt that application.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
Is a vulnerable build present?
Compare these published version ranges with your installed build and any vendor patches.
- Affected versionversion=2.16.0 <=2.18.9
