Kernel memory corruption via oversized card block count
Published Aug 15, 2026 · Updated Aug 15, 2026
Out-of-bounds write in the Linux kernel ms_block driver allows physically proximate attackers to corrupt kernel memory via a crafted card. msb_ftl_initialize trusts the boot page's number_of_blocks value, derives an unchecked zone_count, and indexes the fixed 16-entry free_block_count array past its end. Exploitation requires insertion of a Memory Stick reporting more than 8,192 blocks; the published record establishes struct msb_data corruption but no further impact.
