CVE-2026-68440

Kernel memory corruption via oversized EEPROM copy

Published Aug 12, 2026 · Updated Aug 12, 2026

Out-of-bounds write in the Linux kernel 6.19 txgbe driver allows local users to corrupt kernel memory through an ethtool EEPROM read. txgbe_read_eeprom_hostif() copies each four-byte word into a buffer sized to the requested length, so a non-aligned final word writes past the allocation. Reachability requires a Wangxun adapter using txgbe and local low-privilege access to the ethtool operation; the bounded demonstrated consequence is a kernel crash.
