Local system crash via virtual MTD teardown
Published Aug 10, 2026 · Updated Aug 10, 2026
Use-after-free in Linux kernel 7.1 through 7.1.5 and 7.2-rc1 through 7.2-rc3 allows local users to crash the system. In mtd_virt_concat_destroy_joins(), mtd_concat_destroy() frees item->concat before mtd_virt_concat_put_mtd_devices() dereferences that freed object. Reachability requires a virtual MTD concat join device; systems not using virt_concat MTD are unaffected, and the grounded impact is a system crash.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
