Local kernel compromise via TIPC MTU truncation

Integer truncation in Linux kernel TIPC allows local users to crash or compromise the kernel via an oversized MTU value. TIPC_NL_MEDIA_SET and TIPC_NL_BEARER_SET accept values above 65535, and tipc_link_create silently narrows them into 16-bit fields; zero causes division by zero while small results create undersized fragments. An unprivileged local user obtains the required capability through a user namespace; exploitation enables a kernel crash, kernel-memory reads or overwrites, and control-flow hijacking.
