CVE-2026-68227

Local denial of service via mis-scoped devres

Published Aug 10, 2026 · Updated Aug 10, 2026

Resource leak in the cx231xx media driver in Linux allows local users to exhaust memory by repeatedly unbinding a USB interface. In cx231xx-cards.c, driver state is attached to the parent USB device rather than the bound interface, so unbinding does not release it. Exploitation requires a compatible USB device and permission to unbind its driver; repeated cycles can deplete kernel memory and interrupt service.
