CVE-2026-68213

Local privilege escalation via stranded SDR buffers

Published Aug 10, 2026 · Updated Aug 10, 2026

Use-after-free in the Linux rtl2832_sdr driver allows local users to gain kernel privileges through SDR device ioctls. On streaming-start failures, rtl2832_sdr_start_streaming leaves queued videobuf2 buffers owned by the driver instead of returning them with vb2_buffer_done, enabling later list operations and URB completion to access freed kernel objects. Exploitation requires a local account with access to the SDR device node and coordinated ioctls, lock contention, and signal delivery; successful abuse permits kernel-memory read and write, control-flow hijack, or a kernel crash.
