CVE-2026-68204

Kernel crash via busy-queue format change

Published Aug 10, 2026 · Updated Aug 10, 2026

Out-of-bounds write in the Linux vivid driver allows local users to crash the kernel by changing format capabilities. The CROP, COMPOSE, and SCALE controls call vivid_update_format_cap/out without checking vb2_is_busy(), allowing a queued buffer's format to change between REQBUFS and STREAMON. Access to the local vivid test-media device and a busy capture or output queue is required; systems not using vivid are unaffected.
