Kernel-stack disclosure via stale MODE SELECT length
Published Aug 10, 2026 · Updated Aug 10, 2026
Stack out-of-bounds read in affected Linux kernel releases allows local users to send kernel stack data to an optical drive. mmc_ioctl_cdrom_volume() advances a 32-byte stack-buffer pointer by eight bytes for MODE SELECT but leaves cgc->buflen at 32, so cdrom_mode_select() reads beyond the buffer. The CDROMVOLCTRL path requires an accessible optical drive that reports a nonzero block-descriptor length; CDROMVOLREAD does not trigger the overread.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
