CVE-2026-68159Network attack vector

Kernel crash via oversized OSDMap list decoding

Published Aug 10, 2026 · Updated Aug 10, 2026

Stack out-of-bounds write in Linux libceph allows remote attackers controlling a Ceph monitor to crash connected kernel clients. __decode_pg_temp() and __decode_pg_upmap_items() accept OSDMap list lengths above 32, and later copies overrun ceph_osds.osds on the stack. Exploitation requires a compromised or attacker-controlled Ceph monitor and an active RBD, CephFS, or libceph client; the demonstrated outcome is a kernel BUG or panic.
