Host crash via missing CRUSH type metadata
Published Aug 10, 2026 · Updated Aug 10, 2026
NULL pointer dereference in Linux kernel libceph allows remote attackers to crash affected Ceph client hosts via a malformed CRUSH map. In net/ceph/osdmap.c, get_immediate_parent() passes a NULL type-name pointer to strcmp() when a named parent bucket lacks matching type_names metadata. A compromised or attacker-controlled Ceph monitor must supply the map to a kernel client with localized reads enabled; the resulting oops or panic interrupts the host.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
