CVE-2026-68155Network attack vector

Client crash via zero-monitor monmap acceptance

Published Aug 10, 2026 · Updated Aug 10, 2026

Improper input validation in Linux kernel libceph allows remote attackers to crash Ceph clients via a malformed monitor map. ceph_monmap_decode accepts a CEPH_MSG_MON_MAP whose num_mon value is zero, and a later session-opening path reaches pick_new_mon and triggers its BUG_ON assertion. Exposure requires a client to process the corrupted map and attempt a monitor session; the documented consequence is a client crash.
