CVE-2026-68148

Local privilege escalation via cross-superblock key reuse

Published Aug 10, 2026 · Updated Aug 10, 2026

Use-after-free in Linux kernel fscrypt allows local users to gain kernel privileges through v1 direct-key policy handling. find_or_insert_direct_key() reuses a global fscrypt_direct_key for matching keys without comparing super_block, leaving cleanup with a dangling superblock pointer. Reachability requires control of two encrypted filesystems using the same v1 direct key and can produce kernel memory disclosure, corruption, or a panic.
