Unauthenticated server crash via stale notification reuse
Published Aug 5, 2026 · Updated Aug 5, 2026
Use-after-free in open62541 1.5.5 allows remote attackers to crash an OPC UA server through a valid OPC UA WriteRequest. UA_Subscription_localPublish invokes a local MonitoredItem callback, then reuses the current UA_Notification after that callback deletes the item and synchronously frees the notification. The crash requires a server application whose local data-change callback deletes its currently executing MonitoredItem; successful triggering aborts the server process.
