Process crash via undersized TIFF conversion buffer
Published Sep 18, 2026 · Updated Sep 18, 2026
Heap buffer overflow in OpenImageIO before 3.1.16.0 allows remote attackers to crash image-processing applications via a crafted TIFF. TIFFInput::read_native_scanline_locked() exposes 1-bit contiguous CMYK data as bit-packed uint1 but calls bit_convert() for 8-bit output, writing one byte per value into the smaller caller buffer. Processing the file with a read path such as iinfo -hash requires user interaction and reliably aborts the process after corrupting heap memory.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
